Health insurance
Students from the European Union or European Economic Area are entitled to medical services on the basis of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
It should be issued by a competent domestic authority before arrival to Poland.
In Polish "the European Health Insurance Card" is "Europejska Karta Ubezpieczenia Zdrowotnego". At the moment the EHIC is the only valid medical insurance document on the European Union territory, as far as free medical care is concerned.
If you are not an EU member and are therefore not eligible for universal health insurance that provides access to the public healthcare system in Poland,
- you can opt for voluntary insurance with the National Health Fund (NFZ).
What does voluntary insurance offer?
It entitles you to:
- Full access to healthcare services funded by public funds, on the same terms as other individuals insured under the public healthcare system.
Who can apply for voluntary insurance?
You may apply if you:
- Reside in Poland,
- Are not covered by mandatory health insurance,
- Are not insured under the general health system in any EU or European Free Trade Association (EFTA) country.
What is the premium amount?
For non-EU students, the monthly contribution rate is PLN 55.80.
