Between 20-24 October 2025, the AMU Faculty of English hosted its first Blended Intensive Program (BIP). BIP is a short-term mobility initiative within the Erasmus+ framework that combines online learning with on-site classes. The program conducted at the Faculty was titled “Using literature in teaching English as a foreign language to develop learners’ intercultural competence”, and was coordinated by Prof. Aleksandra Wach.

Within the BIP Programme, we welcomed 20 students and their teachers from four international institutions: University of Zadar, University of Murcia, University of Almeria, and Izmir Democratic University. Eight students from the Faculty of English also participated in the project: Julia Bednarczyk, Julia Dębowska, Amelia Frost, Piotr Matczak, Olga Mazur, Anna Poślad, Paulina Staniszewska, and Jakub Sufleta. The students collaborated in international teams to create a collection of didactic activities aimed at developing intercultural competence through literary texts, designed for use in English language lessons in primary and secondary schools. The result of their work is an e-book containing a set of tasks and teaching materials, available at the link [PDF file *; size: approximately 90 MB].

In addition to actively participating in daily classes, the students also enjoyed a guided tour of Poznań and a celebratory dinner marking the end of the course. The BIP turned out to be an intensive and enriching educational experience for all participants, offering opportunities to develop intercultural and teaching competencies, discussion skills, creativity, and to form friendships and closer cooperation among the partner universities. Inspired by the friendly atmosphere and hospitality of the Faculty of English, one of the international students wrote the following poem:

Poznań
By Pablo Pérez Aparicio (University of Murcia)

Poznań, the land of the goats.
May its surface be frozen
But it will never be cold,
For its hands are holding a flame,
For Polish warmth in its people remains.
